on the go

Sunday, July 12th, 2009

Loaded with info and style, this wedding invitation insert was custom made for a fabulous destination wedding.  I especially like that guests can easily carry it around as they move from venue to venue over the long weekend.  Truly a one-of-a-kind piece.

Dreamy graphics letterpressed on a lush 100% cotton stock.

light ink on dark paper

Saturday, July 11th, 2009

Here’s something I get asked about all the time.  Many people would like to go with letterpress but want a light ink color on dark paper.  It’s such a dramatic look, but unfortunately not very feasible with letterpress.  Here’s a great solution – when you’re looking for this effect…go with engraving.

extra pieces

In addition to wedding invitations, most people order matching extra pieces.  These thank you notes are simple and classy.

simple black

Although you can achieve a gorgeous result printing a few different ink colors in letterpress, sometimes I’m struck at how beautiful a single ink color can be.  It allows the letterpress process to be the star, instead of an elaborate design.  This invitation is a perfect example.

subtle graphics

Friday, July 10th, 2009

I think these iridescent floral graphics are beautiful.  They appear and disappear as you move the card, creating an uber subtle effect.  The text here is printed in thermography, a dark plum color which matches the mounting card underneath.  This elegant font matches the look.  Very pretty.

winter pears

This beautiful invitation caught my eye right away, I love the bright citrus colors for a December wedding.  And the pear tree is a nice Christmas-y touch.  A 3-color letterpress job, very elegant.

adventures in guest blogging

Thursday, July 9th, 2009

Hello!  I am Rebecca Kutys of Moontree Letterpress.  This summer I’ll be doing some guest blogging here at Lion in the Sun, my good friends and neighbors in sunny Brooklyn, NY.  Personally I’m so excited to get started because it allows me to dive into the massive collection of invitations and custom work LITS has delivered over the years and highlight some of my favorite pieces.

Whether it’s wedding, baby, bar mitzvah, or just a special party…swing by to check out the countless books of samples and ideas.  A full staff of helpful folks are here to help you through the process.  I hope you’ll check in on the blog often as the portfolio grows, and feel free to leave a comment with questions or impressions!
