Thanks to everyone who came out for our Thursdays in December happenings. We all had a blast and enjoyed meeting you and truly appreciate your interest and participation! Here are a few photos from last Thursday’s gift wrapping/bow making demo hosted by Smock Paper…

We also received the sweetest note from Erica Lee (thanks Erica!!!) and some photos of what she was able to do after the workshop…
Hello,
Thank you so much for having this event – I had such a good time and made excellent use of my bows, as well as everything else that i learned that night! My gift recipients were VERY impressed.
I’ve attached pictures of some of the presents I wrapped with my new skills!
The 2 peacock pictures show how i used the gorgeous gold peacock paper that i bought from you guys that night, and used leftover paper to make strips and a new bow!
The other bow picture shows one of the bows I made at Lion in the Sun at the event, tied with a ribbon (done with my newly learned fancy NO-bump-on-the-bottom technique)!
Thanks again – once again, you are the best stationery store in ALL OF NYC!
Best,
Erica

We hope you get just the right present, but history shows that the best way to guarantee it is to address the man in charge.
First, get yourself some nice stationery…

Then, be direct, no need to beat around the bush or get all flourishy…

Dave's letter to Santa
Trust me, this worked like a charm 44 years ago.
MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Paper lunch bag with a snowman silhouette carefully cut out holds all the fixings for winter smores. Fill the bottom of the snowman with graham crackers and marshmellows. Put the chocolate bars on top to fill in the black top hat.

An inexpensive colander lined with a flour sack towel is filled with the ingredients for strawberry scones. Write on a wooden spoon to use it for a gift tag.

An oversize tissue paper pom makes a big statement on top of a simply wrapped box.
We wish you all a very wonderful Christmas!

Make opening gift cards more fun. Use a small candy tin and redecorate the cover with fabric, paper and glittery letters. A glass jar holds a coffee filter filled with coffee beans and a gift card to a coffeeshop. Use additional filters to make flowers to decorate the lid. An embroidery hoop covered on both sides with a sewing pattern provides a nice flat package for a fabric or craft store gift card.

Fun colored knee socks can be folded around a jar and filled with candy (and the matching sock of course). A simple metal container is filled with smaller socks filled with treats and tied off with a set of flower hair pins. Several stretchy bracelets in fun colors decorate the container and help hold up the 2 birthday candles that call out the age of the birthday girl.

Buy a single solid color of gift wrap and use it in a variety of ways. Go after it with a Sharpie and make it whatever theme you like. Tie a beautiful ribbon and sprig of pine on the package for a sophisticated holiday present. Or raid your local hardware store for paint swatches. Use a hole punch to cut out colorful shapes and glue them onto your package.
Now it’s time to focus on the wrapping. The next few posts will feature some inventive wrapping ideas from last year that were so good they warrant another look…

A repurposed jar with chalkboard paint applied to the lid holds a bunch of treats for furry friends. Top it off with a dog collar for a ribbon.

A new paint can covered in pretty paper holds a bunch of yummy treats. Use a magnet to attach the recipe or a gift tag to the package.

A recipe box painted with chalkboard paint makes a great reusable container for giving baked goodies. Cookies packaged in a ramekin with a decorative paper band.

Back by extremely popular demand, and just in time to be a perfect last minute gift idea, are these Pantone Postcards. For the Pantone privy person, this rainbow collection can’t fail to bring a smile. Which one’s your favorite? A nice accompaniment might be the Pantone journal.

Dave’s staff pick goes back to the Campbell Raw Press handbound albums. Locally made, they are a true treasure and make for a stunning photo album or scrapbook.

One more event left this holiday season: this Thursday, the 22nd, from 7 – 9pm Smock Paper will be here to present a gift wrapping workshop with their gorgeous paper.
Meanwhile, we’re excited to share some images from last Thursday’s double feature in-store event…
Park Sloper Yona Zeldis McDonough was signing copies of her new children’s book “The Cats in the Doll Shop“.

Also joining us was another neighbor, Janine Nichols, collagist and crafter, singer and songwriter, bringing her fabulous paper creations. Here are some glimpses of these one-of-a-kind works…

We are IN LOVE with these boxed notecards, which come in six different motifs, from Thornwillow. Each pack comes sweetly wrapped in a band matching the envelope liner and includes a letterpressed booklet of verse as a surprise bonus!

A perennial favorite in our store are the Acme pens and matching business card holders. These pens are rollerballs that write unfailingly well and have an appealing mass, bright colors, patterns from well-respected artists and designers (mini-bios included!) and come in a case that compliments these superior gifts. New and noteworthy are the “stiletto pens”, super-cute slim designs, Acme quality but light enough for the purse.
