staff picks 2013 | sarah and her brooklyn love

“My Brooklyn love continues with my favorite holiday card from the PostScript Brooklyn line. All my friends and family will be receiving the Montague Street holiday card – blue skyline, green watertower and all greetings one could ever hope to send: laughter, joy, peace, glad hearts, happiness, cheerful spirits. So happy to be sending true Brooklyn love to all my peeps near and far.”

staff picks 2013 | sarah and her ornaments

Next up is Sarah’s selection: “I like to start the holiday season off with a “Ding! to local handmade ornaments!” The Great Lakes, a Brooklyn based company, tops the charts this year with wooden hand painted ornaments. For the more traditional, a wooden bell packaged in a cute muslin drawstring bag can add some music to your own Christmas tree. For that creative unique friend, I am leaning toward the die cut wooden arrow painted with a neon orange point and accented with baby blue stripes. My all-time favorite is “The Slice of Life” ornament – actual slices of tree branches hand painted creating a cycle wheel of beauty.”

staff picks 2013 | melinda and her confetti and cabs

Melinda can’t decide. Here’s her holiday card picks:

“I picked two! First up is this box of confetti covered holiday cards from Sugar Paper Los Angeles. I’m especially in love with the pink envelope and gold foil printed liner … Second, I chose these NYC-inspired Dear Hancock cards. A snowman on top of a taxi – it doesn’t get more New York than that!”

staff picks 2013 | jess and her lacroix

Jess’s journal obsession:

“I have been head over heels for these Christian Lacroix Papier notebooks since the day they arrived in the shop. As a notebook fanatic, I would be thrilled to unwrap one of these guys this holiday season, and I’m pretty confident I’m not alone. Grab one for your favorite writer, poet, or list-maker. Oh, and throw in a Le Pen – they’re my fave!”

staff picks 2013 | melinda and her humans

Here’s Melinda on the gift she couldn’t wait for…

“I had been a fan of the Humans of New York blog for years when I heard the book was coming out. Of course, I couldn’t wait to order it for the shop! Brandon Stanton’s photographs and interviews are fascinating, funny, inspiring, and touching. They paint a beautiful picture of New York that locals will love and visitors will certainly appreciate.”

If Jess were stationery…

“I am totally obsessed with Ferme a Papier‘s holiday cards by Cat Seto. Seriously, I like to imagine that if I was a box of holiday cards, I would be a box of these … The designs are the perfect mix of cozy and urban, warm and contemporary. Absolutely perfect for city-dwellers looking for modern standout cards this season. And once the holidays have passed, you can snag Ferme a Papier’s super cool everyday stationery sets too.”

staff picks 2013 | ella and her matryoshkas

Ella on her fave holiday cards: “Holiday design can be extremely predictable nowadays, and it’s easy to feel bored and unimpressed when everything is red and green or covered in snowflakes. In a few blocks of well-placed color against a clean, no-frills background, this boxed card set from The Art File brings you a fresh and modern rendering of familiar holiday characters. I also love the graphic take on traditional matryoshka/Russian nesting dolls. It’s minimal but still colorful, cheerful, and charming, and its simplicity leaves room for your handwritten personal message to take the stage.”

staff picks 2013 | ella and her jewels

Here’s Ella’s staff pick: “I have been eying these for months. Here Yellow Owl Workshop combines the imperfect charm (pun may be intended) of hand-illustration with some seriously sophisticated bling. The pendants are vividly colored and beautiful, both in look and feel, and the corked glass vial packaging is unique and perfectly continues the delicate-meets-rustic theme. (I personally like the color wheel. And I work Wednesdays. Just saying.)”

Holidays are coming up fast and it’s time to ask our staff to survey the store for their fave items.

Let’s start with Danielle: “Meet our new furry woodland friends. Perfect for your small New York apartment (woodland friends like large apartments, too). In addition to the squirrels, foxes, and owls there are also adorable penguin friends to help complete your holiday decorations. Set all your new friends in a cozy little forest of tress. We will gladly help you design your forest.”
