Jenn Sprinkle is the mastermind behind Dallas-based Jenn Sprinkle Creative and her namesake stationery line, which features wedding and social invitations full of personality. We discovered the collection at the 2012 Stationery Show, where it was nominated for Best New Product, and we fell in love with its playful yet practical tri-fold invites with tear-off RSVPs and lighthearted designs. We adore the line and we adore Jenn, so when she told us she would be in town for the New York Gift Show this week, we jumped at the chance to sit down with her. Read on to see what Jenn had to say about her fabulous customizable collection, which she so perfectly describes as “where personality meets paper.”
Who is the “Jenn Sprinkle” bride?
Well, she’s laid back and she wants something different. She’s not traditional, but she wants to maintain an element of tradition, and she’s definitely creative. But the biggest thing is that she’s willing to go there, you know? She’s not afraid to step out of the box.
And what’s her wedding like?
Her wedding is definitely as unique and full of personality as she is! She may have a lot of information to give her guests – like maps, directions, and so on — and she wants everything streamlined. She doesn’t want to cram everything on a single flat card and she doesn’t want to use tons of separate pieces. Actually, the grooms I work with always love how streamlined and efficient the trifolds and tear-off RSVPs are!
Do you have a favorite from your own collection right now?
Hmm … It’s hard to pick! Ok, can I pick two? I love Folk Floral and Tandem. I think it’s the vintage playfulness of Folk Floral that I really love. And I like the novelty of Tandem, and the bike element. It’s just so charming!
What’s one thing we may not know about the collection?
Oh, I’ve got one! We’re able to print digitally on shimmer paper. We also have wood grain textured envelopes, and we make wrap around address labels where we can print your guest’s address and your return address. They’re so much fun!
What stationery trends are you expecting to see this year?
I’m already seeing a lot of neon this year, and it’s definitely spilling over into fashion and home goods too. Metallics are still going strong, especially combined with mattes. And I’m starting to see couples requesting unusual placement of text on invites, whether it’s bleeding off the page or oversized. I’m also seeing an interest in handwriting. Not just handwriting fonts, but real handwriting.
What one piece of advice would you give a couple looking for wedding invitations?
Just stay true to yourselves. Your invitation is the first time people get a glimpse into your wedding, so make it about who you are and what you want your big day to be like. Maintain that integrity throughout the wedding planning process so that at the end of the day, it’s all about the two of you.
